New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Governor Kathy Hochul and the MTA have announced an $800,000 (Rs 7 crore) study into what would be the first thermal energy network in a US transit system. Planned for the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Chambers Street subway station complex, it would capture heat from one of the city’s hottest platforms, store it up to 600 feet underground, and use it to warm City Hall and other municipal buildings in winter.
