In 2005, Oprah Winfrey committed $10 million to help create Angel Lane in Houston for hurricane evacuees. The project eventually provided 65 furnished homes to displaced families. Eight years after the first residents moved in, the neighbourhood’s long-promised community center finally opened, offering space for education, workforce development and community services.
