The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Taliban leaders Haibatullah Akhundzada and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, accusing them of gender-based persecution against women and girls in Afghanistan since August 2021. The Taliban dismissed the warrants as baseless, while the ICC highlighted the deprivation of fundamental rights and freedoms imposed on women and girls.
