An Oklahoma wind farm is creating an invisible river of wind that reaches much higher than scientists once thought

Scientists mapped wind farm wakes in Oklahoma with detailed observations. The study revealed upward momentum transfer extending far beyond turbine blades. These atmospheric disturbances spread vertically, creating a “river of wind” effect. Low-level jets and gravity waves influenced wake recovery significantly. Findings will improve future wind energy production and farm layout models.
