After disappearing for decades, seven beavers returned to California’s Tule River and began restoring the landscape

Beavers have returned to Tule River Tribe lands after decades of absence. A family of seven beavers was released in June 2024 to restore the watershed. Their dams will slow water flow, creating wetlands and improving drought resilience. This reintroduction also supports threatened species and reconnects the Tribe to its heritage. The project demonstrates how one species can revitalize an entire landscape.
