Russian opposition politician Boris Nadezhdin was convicted of displaying extremist symbols. This ruling prevents him from contesting upcoming parliamentary elections in Russia. Nadezhdin had previously criticized President Vladimir Putin and the Ukraine war. Another Putin critic, Ilya Remeslo, was also arrested on charges of spreading false military information. Russian authorities have intensified crackdowns on dissent and free speech since 2022.
