An extraordinary Lewis chessman carving has fetched an impressive £735,000 at auction. Hidden away in a drawer for more than 55 years by the family of the dealer, this remarkable figure was revealed as a warder, part of the legendary Lewis Chessmen collection. Originally found in 1831, this collection comprises 93 intricately carved pieces from 1150 to 1200 AD, though the auction leaves four original pieces still unaccounted for.
