Virginia’s $8 million Ragged Island restoration project rebuilt 1.09 miles of shoreline, creating 2.6 acres of marsh and 2.2 acres of oyster reef. Funded by NOAA Fisheries, the project is reducing erosion and keeping hundreds of tons of sediment and nutrients out of Chesapeake Bay while creating valuable habitat for fish, crabs and birds.
